Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. ~Author unknown

What Are Skills Days?
Skills Days are unique learning experiences that connect our students with the talents and expertise of our local community. During these special events, community members come into the school to teach topics and hands-on skills that students may not typically encounter in a traditional classroom setting. Skills Days take place over three consecutive Fridays, with one-hour sessions each day. Students stay with the same group all three weeks, giving them the opportunity to build their skills and deepen their understanding of the subject. We host Skills Days twice each year—once in the winter and once in the spring. Students are grouped by grade level (Kindergarten–2nd grade, 3rd–5th grade, and 6th–8th grade) and can choose from a wide variety of engaging topics. Past offerings have included art, music, farming, woodturning, cooking, forestry, dance, STEM, sports, military studies, architecture, crime solving, and more. Students rank their session preferences, and we do our best to place each student in one of their top choices. Skills Days are a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and build meaningful connections with members of their community—all in a fun, supportive environment. If you have a skill or area of expertise you would like to share with our students, we would love to partner with you. Please contact us at community@coburgcharter.org.
What Are Community Days?
Community Days are special opportunities for our students to step beyond the classroom and make a meaningful difference in the community around them. Over the course of three Fridays, students spend one hour each day volunteering together with their classmates. During Community Days, students partner with local organizations such as the Coburg Community Foundation, Coburg Commons, Parker Learning Gardens, Coburg Main Street, our local food bank and the City of Coburg. Community Days provide hands-on experiences that help students understand the value of service, teamwork, and civic responsibility. Most importantly, they learn that even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact on the community they call home. If you know of a non-profit that could use our support, please email community@coburgcharter.org.
