What is People for Coburg School (known as PCS)?  

 

People for Coburg School (PCS) is organized for the purpose of supporting the educational programs and extracurricular activities of CCCS while upholding the vision, mission, and goals set forth by the CCCS School Board.  At Coburg Community Charter School you are part of a family that values community, character, academics, and leadership. CCCS started as a partnership between parents, teachers, and community members in 2010 with the proposed closure of Coburg Elementary by 4J. The community of Coburg pulled together for tasks big and small, filling the then empty library, down to silverware for the cafeteria. 

 

Like most Oregon public charter schools, CCCS receives only 80% of state funding provided to traditional public schools. Despite this shortfall, our students receive an exceptional educational experience, CCCS retains the best teachers and staff, and creatively operates the facilities. The work of PCS is essential to these efforts to do more with less, by raising volunteers and funds to provide valuable learning experiences, resources, staff support beyond what the school budget alone can provide, and community building events.

 

PCS supports CCCS with fundraisers as well as community events. Pre-covid PCS would host Bingo, community dinners, Harvest Festival, and more fun, free community events. We are hoping many events will begin to return this fall.

We would like to invite you to join us in all the fun while also giving you an opportunity to complete the 20 required volunteer hours during the year.  Below are just some examples of how you can be involved:

 

• Attend a PCS meeting

• Help tally laps at “Jog-a-thon”

• Help set up decorations at the Scholastic “Book Fair” or guide children towards good fit books

• Become a class captain 

• Bring in a dish or help set up/clean up  for “Staff Appreciation” days

• Organize clothing for the school “Clothing Closet” which provides families low cost options

• Co-lead an event

At home options:

• Put together PCS newsletter

• Make calls to seek donations 

• Help design/create flyers for PCS

• Send update emails to your child’s classroom regarding PCS activities

• Put together packets for various PCS events
